Quest: Gaming Monitor

I am using an old monitor, you can see it here. I recently upgraded my computer to a Quad core with a GeForce 8800 GT. So I am running games at 1280 x 1024... it would seem to me that I am not getting the most out of my system with my 6 year old monitor. Am I wrong?

The challenge is getting a new monitor purchase passed the wife, considering I have a nice new computer by me. Anyone have any suggestions on a good wife-friendly cost monitor?

Hah, I work an ultra casual side job that gives me enough cash for these sorts of things but I usually only get paid out once or twice per year, so it's a lot of waiting!

I just bought a Samsung 2253BW 22" wide screen LCD for $279 on sale (Canada). I think you can get the 2220 22" (glossy screen with a smaller contrast ratio) for about $239 or less.

LG, Acer, and Viewsonic make some decent LCDs as well but make sure you read the reviews first. You can usually find a 19-22" in the range of $179-239.

You probably want to look in the 22" wide family because that card will easily support 1680x1050 gaming resolutions. Also, look for something in the range of 2-5ms response and in the neighbourhood of 1000:1 or 8000:1 (dynamic) contrast ratios.

Good luck! :)

Thanks, the Samsung 2253BW looks perfect and at a reasonable price. Those $450 monitors would not fly :)

Time to start the operation to convince her by the time WAR launches... :)

I have the Samsung 225bw 22" and I could not be happier. I got it about a year and a half ago.
