This week Warhammer Online celebrates its second anniversary. It's hard to believe that two years has gone by already. When I was younger and in school, two years seemed to take forever. Now it is gone in the blink of an eye.
My official time in WAR actually started on September 14th with the start of the Collectors Edition Head Start. Me and my fellow CoWs started out on the Averheim server. As you probably know, WAR struggled after launch. Server merges were necessary and we were merged into the Badlands server. Many of my fellow guild mates moved on, but a couple of us remain in the guild Silent Reign.
Despite the negative press, Warhammer is still my favorite game to play. It has been over two years and I have never even thought about leaving. At this point in my life, it is exactly what I want in a MMO: PvP with MMO mechanics and progression. That's pretty much it and WAR provides it in spades.
WAR has changed quite a bit over the last 2 years, most of it for the better. With 1.3 it is finally embracing its PvP nature and stopped trying to please every type of gamer. Sure, it is a niche but that is how MMO's succeed in todays market.
Warhammer is not the only thing that has changed over the past 2 years. My family has basically doubled since launch. That has meant less time to play games, but thankfully WAR is friendly to the casual player. Most of my play sessions last been 30 minutes and 2 hours. In a raid focused PvE game, I'd be out of luck. With WAR, that is plenty of time to kill some Destro.
It has been a great two years. I can't wait to see what is in store for WARs future.
