Recently, Moon Over Endor was able to attend BioWare's special UK event for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Basically, he got to play for an hour. Like a good blogger, he posted a recap about his experiences at the event. I found it to be an enjoyable read, with some things that stood out.
just that and standard quests it would feel like most any MMO (like WoW, LotRO or Rift) I think. But the dialogs make it feel like a completely different experience. To me it makes it feel like you're playing a single-player game, while you're playing an MMO (and no doubt about that).
That is pretty much what I am looking for in a PvE MMO these days. I want a great story to play through. TOR has promised unique stories for each class, so playing through every class would be the game for me. End game? Who needs it.
You get this green, transparent veil to indicate where the instance starts, but beyond that the instances are part of the world; no loading.
Loading screens are usually a necessary evil, but it seems they have managed to get rid of them and still get the advantages of an instance. Sounds good to me, can't wait to see it for myself.
There is a lot more in his post, so be sure to give it a read.
